When style is your quest and anything from shoes and purses to rugs, lamps, paintings, prints, plates, trays, etc. are your idea of treasure, it's not uncommon to find yourself cruising the endless listings of ebay looking for just that perfect little purchase. And while those congratulatory words "You have won your item..." affirm your skills as an out-bidder... the alternative often leaves you sad that your prize slipped into the hands of another. So while we looove, Lonny's ebay choice for this reclaimed wood Farmhouse Table:

...for all reasons relating to charming picnics,  plein-air dinner parties, a smorgasbord of colorful plates and delicious dishes,  fun company, breezy linens, fresh flowers, and candlelight...

...It is just simply too HOT to be outside having a picnic in Texas right now...By the time we can go outside again without completely melting, that Farmhouse table will be long gone.  So, it was with a sigh of relief that I came across this darling Noir table available for purchase now and still in the fall:
Reclaimed Farm House Table

It's a perfect match without that pesky risk of not being there when I want it. Crisis averted. Don't you want one too?

From Dorothy Draper to Kelly Wearstler and the always inspiring pages of Lonny, we have found ourselves continually drawn, like moths to a bright gold flame, to the influence of 1930's Hollywood Regency style as well as fun modern interpretations thereof.

Bushels of wheat, faux bamboo, and a heavy handed Midas touch are just a couple of the ways we are picking up the golden trend at the shop.

"A high flying Hollywood entrepreneur"...gone wild

In the August issue, AD features a Martyn Lawrence Bullard designed house for "a high flying Hollywood entrepreneur" in beautiful Punta Mita, Mexico.

The house is undeniably "yummy" and "delicious" (to use a few Martyn-isms) and, quite often, magazine editors will omit the client's identity for privacy reasons.  In this case, we think they were just embarrassed about said client...

Our question is:  Were they not aware that the Bravo hit Million Dollar Decorators was going to feature the exact same house on an episode a few weeks ago?? Or, that this episode was going to reveal the identity of the "high flying" client as Girls Gone Wild creator, Joe Francis?   In the episode, we find him less than likeable as he berates his staff and and threatens to fire every last one of them.  Nor do we think very highly of his life's work.

I suppose we wouldn't have identified him by name either.

One thing that we can't find fault with?

Martyn's style and the master bedroom with it's mercury glass lamps:

$425

Can you tell I'm ready for Happy Hour?

It's only 3:55, but I'm so excited about meeting my sister-in-law and my cousin's cousin for a yummy glass of Sauvignon Blanc a little later.  And, while I am always excited about an early-week glass of wine, I'm blaming Elle Decor today as I am just now getting around to reading their latest issue and happened across this:

What else is one to do, BUT think of something chilled and alcoholic after seeing this?  The only thing I think they got wrong?  Not including OUR favorite ice bucket:

$95

This William Bounds Grainware bucket holds three quarts of ice and looks like cut crystal, but is actually made of acrylic so you don't need to worry about chipping the glass or taking it outside. It is pretty, functional, and makes a great wedding gift!

Martyn vs. The Babybroads

So, if you haven't developed a healthy dedication to the Million Dollar Decorators on Bravo yet, feel free to do that right about...now. And, if you didn't quite make it to the One Kings Lane container sale featuring London found treasures by Martyn Lawrence-Bullard this week, worry not, because a few of those sold-out items can be found right here in San Antonio, and luckily for you and your [no doubt fabulous] pocket-book, without the hefty price tags...

Hoofing it

I've loved John Dickinson ever since I realized one of my favorite pieces of furniture owned by my grandmother was by the famed designer.

Bibey's table was Dickinson's iconic draped galvanized steel table - similar to this one on 1stdibs:

What I didn't know, until I saw this month's Veranda, was that Dickinson also created the model for one of our favorite new pieces of furniture that we carry at the store.

The Dickinson Original

Veranda featured the design by Myra Hoefer....

But you can get your very own Dickinson inspired bench from us for a fraction of the price:

Noir Bench $600

A Lesson on the Polka Dot

If the first thing that comes to mind when you here "Polka" is Lederhosen, an accordion, and yummy beer, pay attention!

The Polka Dot was first named in 1871 by Godey's Magazine.  Allegedly, the dot we now know as the "polka" was given it's name because it was as popular as the Czech peasant dance at it's height in the late 19th century.  If only a dot pattern had become popular circa 1995 - we could all be sporting the latest Macarena Dot....

According to Wikipedia, the Polka Dot is "generally confined to more playful attire such as bathing suits and lingerie."  Recently, the Dot has liberated itself from underthings and has been given attention by Elle Decor with many great polka dot products to dress your home, not you:

But, of course, our favorite Polka Dot item are pillows that you can buy from us on our website:

Specify Hard Candy (multi-color) or Steel (a beautiful light blue and brown)

Happy Birthday, Coty!

Today marks the late Francois Coty's birthday.  These days, everyone from Paris Hilton to Kim Kardashian has a signature fragrance but it all started with Francois Coty. The descendant of Isabelle Bonaparte, the aunt of Napoleon, is considered to be perfumery's first abstract genius. He not only discovered a scent that captured as many noses as necessary to morph him into a millionaire, but realized that an attractive bottle was essential to any perfume's success. Proving further successful, he took what had prior been reserved for the rich as a luxury and extended perfume to mass markets in a more accessible fashion, thus changing the perfume industry forever.

Read more about him in this great coffee table book, "COTY" that we have available at the store. $60

A living room worth gossiping about...

If you are anything like us, tonight your plans include curling up on the couch in your comfiest jammies at 9/8 central watching the latest between Dan, Serena, Chuck, Blair, and Nate.

While the plot lines are admittedly soapy-er each week, one element of the show that hasn't changed?  The amazingly styled and often-overlooked sets.

We've previously noted some of our favorite silver candlesticks from Blair and Serena's Paris apartment:

$185

And just last week we couldn't help but looking at Lily's chic living room with new eyes....

Let us help you create the same look with two great pieces in our inventory:

Elephant Stool $165

Now if only we could find a Prada Marfa painting...
